It is with profound sadness and deep respect that we gather our thoughts to honor the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Dr. Mehnaaz Ally, a dedicated pediatric palliative care expert who worked closely with the Rare Diseases South Africa (RDSA) team. Her untimely passing has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her.


Mehnaaz was more than a medical professional; she was a compassionate healer, a tireless advocate, and a beacon of hope for countless children and families facing the most challenging health journeys. Her work in paediatric palliative care was a testament to her unwavering commitment to alleviating suffering and providing comfort, dignity, and love to young patients and their loved ones.


Throughout her partnership with RDSA, Dr. Ally became a cherished colleague and friend to many. Her empathetic approach to care extended beyond clinical practice; she understood the importance of listening, of standing in solidarity with patients and their families, and of ensuring that every child, regardless of their diagnosis, was treated with respect and kindness.
